Oklahoma Vacay 2023: Pre-Extreme Tornado Tours Adventure

Day 1 – Thursday, April 27, 2023: Travel Day

  • Today is a special day! On this day in 2018, I traveled to Oklahoma City for my first ever storm chasing trip.

  • I began my adventure by driving 2 hours to Washington DC/Reagan National Airport (DCA). This will be my second direct flight since going to Boston in 2016.

  • Traffic was off and on after passing Fredericksburg but I made it in plenty of time to get to the airport.

  • After a 3 hour loooong flight, I finally settled in and I tried my first local restaurant for this trip called Chick ‘N Beer. 6 traditional Gochujang wings, fries, and lemonade. See below:

Day 2 – Friday, April 28, 2023

  • It is a cold miserable day here in OKC. This morning the temperature was in the upper 40s. For those that know me, know I hate the cold!

  • For my next food journey, I traveled to Florence’s Restaurant for lunch. Florence’s Restaurant, founded by Florence Kemp, has been cooking amazing food in OKC since 1952 and was also featured on Diner’s Drive-Ins and Dives. It’s definitely worth checking out if you are in the area. https://theflorencesrestaurant.com. Today, I got to try their famous Yammed Fried Chicken. For sides, I got green beans, corn, mashed potatoes, corn bread and homemade lemonade to drink.

  • Dessert Time! I went to Arbuckle Mountain Fried Pies to grab me a delicious warm apple pie! I was definitely not disappointed. Glad I bought 2.

Day 3 – Saturday, April 29, 2023

  • On May 4, 2018 while on tour, we went to a BBQ restaurant called Smokin’ Joe’s Rib Ranch. 5 years later I finally got to go back. Today, I got ribs, brisket, fries, coleslaw, Texas toast and sweet tea. And no, I could not eat all of it.

  • My final food stop for the day was Not Cho Cheesecake. Today, I got the delicious Strawberry No Shortcake. Very Delicious!
